Week 10: Digital Curation / Storytelling

Task:

  • Tell a story in a medium of your choice…

Consider:

  • The relevance of the chosen medium
  • Your approach to narrative in relation to your developing practice

Introduction

This week, I’ve decided to tell a story in a medium of my choice, the medium chosen is again, I enjoyed experimenting with it last time. and it showcases my ideas in an image form, by using words I can curate the perfect or at least close idea.

I’ve decided to make a bunch of AI prompts with black people in juxtaposition ‘stereotypical’ places.

The narrative is questioning our stereotypes of where black people should be, socially and physically.

Process

Again, just a few AI prompts, some of them weren’t coming up and unfortunately, I exceeded my status quo in terms of free prompting.

I tried to do the best prompting I could for the short amount of time, but I really value uncovering black issues, narratives and storytelling since I am a black woman, it is personal for me. Having to grow up in a world where my race is stereotyped, it is important to break barriers in fields that we aren’t known for. Like STEM being royalty, and certain dances other than breakdancing.

Outcome

Reflection

What did I like?

I liked

  • Being able to experiment with A.I and prompts for images further with a narrative that was personal to me.
  • Understanding how to place my artistic ideas into my creative practice digitally, with a narrative
  • I genuinely like AI now, I will be using it as a form of artwork in my practice
What didn’t I like?
  • Not being able to do more, as I ran out of credits.
PLANS for next time:
  • To develop my story and narrative what other mediums could I have used?
